Israel handed over security control in Bethlehem to the Palestinian Authority. Israeli army trucks transported equipment from bases near the West Bank city Wednesday as Palestinian police officers assumed responsibility for security. The withdrawal comes on the heels of the Israeli redeployment earlier in the week in the Gaza Strip, also part of efforts to get the “road map” peace plan on track.
