Russian police have detained seven teenagers in the central Russian town of Klintsy in connection with last week’s desecration of a Jewish cemetery, according to a report by the Union of Councils for Jews in the former Soviet Union. The suspects, all of whom attend middle school together in Klintsy, a town in Bryansk region, could face up to three years in prison if convicted of taking part in the attack in which 43 gravestones were knocked down. They have been charged with “mocking the bodies of the dead and the places of their burial,” which carries a stiffer penalty than vandalism, but due to their age they will likely serve little time if convicted.
