WASHINGTON (JTA) — President Obama will visit Turkey next month.
The visit, which will likely come after a trip to Europe scheduled from March 31 to April 5, will mark the new U.S. president’s first visit to a predominantly Muslim country and continue Obama’s effort to engage the Muslim world.
According to media reports, it will not be the site of the major speech Obama promised during the campaign to deliver in a major Muslim capital. The trip is expected to focus on Turkey’s possible role in helping the United States to withdraw from Iraq, as well as how the Turks could assist in Afghanistan.
