Norm Coleman, rock star?

Yeah, we’re just as tired of and bored with  the Norm Coleman-Al Franken recount as you are, but this Politico story today on how fundraisers — as well as lawyers — want it to continue caught our eye because of its description of how Coleman is received when he appears on behalf of the Republican Jewish Coalition:

“Everywhere he goes, he’s like a rock star,” said someone familiar with Coleman’s work for the RJC. Coleman has helped the group immeasurably, the source said. “There’s just a high interest in the race.”

The story says Franken has raised $7 million since the election, while Coleman raised $5 million between Election Day and mid-February. But it adds that the pro-Israel political action committee NORPAC didn’t have much sucess with its solicitation for Coleman a few weeks ago:

Karen Pichkhadze, an official with the PAC, said the response was “actually pretty quiet.”

The group raised less than $2,000, which it forwarded to Coleman, she said.

“I think it’s kind of fading,” Pichkhadze said of the fervor over the race.

By the way, Franken’s lead is now up to 312 votes after the counting of some previously unopened absentee ballots.
