JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two Palestinian teens were killed during West Bank clashes with the Israeli military, including one who Israel said was shot in error.

Abdel Rahman Abdullah, 13, died after being shot in the chest as Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers clashed Monday night at the Aida refugee camp near Bethlehem.

The Israel Defense Forces said the following day that the teen was shot in error as soldiers attempted to quell a riot. An unnamed senior IDF officer cited by the Hebrew-language news website Ynet said the soldier had aimed his gun at another teen standing nearby who was leading the riot and that the bullet hit the ground and ricocheted into Abdullah’s chest.

On Monday morning, an 18-year-old Palestinian was killed early during a riot in Tulkarem.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been injured during riots and in clashes with Israeli security services, according to Palestinian reports.
