Nevada City’s 100-year-old Jewish cemetery has been formally rededicated after months of work of restoration. Like other Jewish cemeteries in northern California, the Nevada City burial grounds contain the graves of Jewish pioneers who had a major role in the commercial and industrial development of the state.
The cemetery was restored through the work of the Commission for the Restoration of Pioneer Jewish Cemeteries. Mel Altman of Sacramento, is commission chairman. He took a leading part in the rededication ceremonies at which Rabbi Nathaniel Simkind of Richmond conducted religious services.
