The 26th annual convention of Hapoel Hamizrachi opened here today and will continue through Monday with more than 500 delegates from all sections of the United States and Canada in attendance. Principal speakers include Aubrey S. Eban, Israel’s chief delegate to the United Nations; S.Z. Shragai, member of the Jewish Agency executive and Hapoel Hamizrachi leader in Israel who has just arrived here from Jerusalem; Dr. Henry Raphael Gold, president of Hapoel Hamizrachi of America; and Shlomo Heimowitx, mayor of the Kfar Etzion settlement which was destroyed by the Arabs last year.
One of the chief items on the convention agenda is consideration of the question of Hapoel Hamizrachi’s relationship to the Orthodox Zionist bloc in the United States. The convention will officially open tomorrow evening when Dr. Gold delivers his presidential report to the delegates. Israeli Chief Rabbi Dr. Isaac Halevi Herzog will make a short-wave radio broadcast to the convention from Jerusalem.
