More than 5,000 people sought information about Palestine at the New York and Tel Aviv Bureaus of the American Economic Committee for Palestine, the Committee reported yesterday after two years of activity.
The committee was organized by a group of leading Zionists including Judge Julian W. Mack, Israel B. Brodie and Robert Szold.
The committee’s investigations cover every economic phase of Palestine including agriculture, manufacturing, transport and banking. More than 175 of the inquirers at the committee’s bureaus later established themselves in industrial enterprises, the report stated.
Since about seventy per cent of inquirers now are of German origin, the committee has published a pamphlet in German giving economic information necessary to an immigrant desiring to establish himself in Palestine. A total of 1,359 mail inquiries from forty-five countries and covering more than 100 phases of Palestine economic activity were answered, the committee reported.
Since the committee’s purpose is to accelerate the absorptive capacity of Palestine through the creation of new industrial enterprises, it endeavors to guide the establishment of those industries which can be put on a secure and permanent basis, the report said.
The committee acts as a clearing house for methods of business organization and as a channel for introduction of new capital and industries.
