A parallel between the Hebrew exodus from Egypt to Palestine and the colonization of America by refugees from religious intolerance in Europe was drawn tonight by Dr. Cyrus Adler, president of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, in an address on “Judaism and the American Heritage” over station WEAF.
Dr. Adler asserted that there was complete harmony between the Jewish teachings and the mode of life of all the people of the United States. “We feel that through maintaining the Jewish tradition we are making a distinct contribution to the American heritage,” he said.
He pointed out that not only did the American colonists, like the Hebrews, have a fresh country to settle and something akin to 40 years in the wilderness, but they “belonged to that portion of non-Conformists who were greatly impressed by the Hebrew Scriptures.”
