Admiral Karl Doenitz, successor to Hitler during the week between the Fuhrer’s death and the overrunning of Germany by the Allied armies, was released today from imprisonment in Berlin where he had completed a ten-year prison sentence meted out at the Nuremberg Trials.
The Nazi war criminal was taken from Spandau Prison in a limousine to a Berlin apartment where his wife awaited him and then he disappeared. Reportedly the least repentant of the top Nazis, Doenitz is said to have maintained contact with NEO-NAZI elements.
