It is unlikely that legislation for the registration of aliens will be adopted. This opinion was expressed by the Executive Council of the American Federation of Labor in its report to the 46th Annual Convention of the Federation to be held in Detroit on October 4th. The report adds that “the provisions of the bill (referring to the Aswell Registration Bill) followed so closely the prewar laws of Germany that the American Federation of Labor used every effort for its defeat.”
The statement closes with the aforementioned expression of doubt as to the outlook for the proposed measure, in which the following language is used: “It is not believed that sufficient influence can be bought upon Congress to secure the enactment of this character of legislation.”
