More Jewish high schools will be established by Alliance Israelite Universelle, it was announced here today by Jules Braunachvig, of Paris, vice-president of the organization. Mr; Braunschvig made the announcement at the annual meeting held here by the American Friends of Alliance, under the chairmanship of Alan M. Stroock.
In order to provide more teachers for Alliance schools, the organization’s normal school facilities will be expanded in Paris, Mr. Braunachvig reported. Thus, he said, Alliance will be enabled not only to continue its network of schools in the Mediterranean area, but also to train more teachers “to provide higher Jewish education to the future intelligentsia of West European Jewry.”
Eugene Weill, secretary-general of Alliance, who had also come here from Paris to attend the meeting of the American Friends, reported that the organization will extend its network of high schools in the Negev region of Israel, as well as in other Israeli areas settled predominantly by Jewish immigrants from Asia and Africa.
Marcel Franco, president of the American Friends of the Alliance, who was recently in Morocco where King Hassan II conferred upon him a high Moroccan decoration told the meeting that there is every reason to believe that a way will be found to insure for the Jewish children in North Africa–where the Alliance operates 71 day schools–an adequate general and religious education while fully respecting the aspirations of the newly independent countries of that area.
