The American Jewish Congress today called on Henry Cabot Lodge and other members of the American delegation to the United Nations to urge Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold to make public “such information as he may have regarding the plight of Egyptian Jewry.”
Declaring that it is “deeply disturbed” by recurrent reports and uncontradicted press stories that facts regarding action by the Egyptian Government against Jews in Egypt have been obtained by the U. N. staff and submitted to the Secretary General, but have not been made public, the American Jewish Congress emphasized that the immediate disclosure of the facts was essential as a “prerequisite to the discharge by the United Nations of its responsibility to protect human rights.”
