American Nazis Fail to Find Private Cemetery Willing to Bury Rockwell with Nazi Rites

Another effort to find a burial place for the American Nazi Party’s slain leader, George Lincoln Rockwell, failed today. A member of the party at Rockwell’s former headquarters here announced that the Nazis had planned to bury Rockwell in a cemetery at Spottsylvania, Va., where they were to conduct rites “with appropriate” ceremonies. Those rites would have included the wearing of Nazi uniforms by members of the mourning group. However, the Nazi said, the cemetery withdrew its permission to have Rockwell’s remains interred there after some residents of Spottsylvania had threatened to obtain a court injunction against the management of the burial grounds.

Yesterday, army military policemen forcefully prevented a group of uniformed, swastika-wearing Nazis from entering a national cemetery there, when the Nazis tried to force their way through the gate but were ordered to remove their Nazi costumes and decorations. Three Nazis were arrested in that melee. After the Rockwell coffin was banned from the national facility, it was taken to a funeral home here while other arrangements were being sought by the Nazis. Today, the Nazi here said they still hoped to find a “suitable” burial place for their slain leader, who was assassinated here last Friday. A former member of Rockwell’s party is under arrest as a suspect in the murder. (Later in the day the Nazis said they buried Rockwell’s body in a “secret place.”)
