The Vandenberg-Connally resolution authorising American participation in the International Refugee Organization was called on the Senate calendar today and postponed until tomorrow after questions had been raised as to how far the measure would commit the United States in immigration and other matters.
An amendment proposed today by Senaor Revercomb, Republican of West Virginia, for himself and Senator McGrath of Rhode Island and Senator McCarran of Nevada, Democrate, would assure that participation in the IRO not make it mandatory upon the United States to admit a share of the refugees. Pointing out that the resolution “does not involve any latitude with respect to our own immigration policy” Vandenberg, who expressed his willingness to accept the proposed amendment, said that it would make the measure “totally exclusive” of the immigration question.
