A delegation of Anglo-Jewish leaders currently on a two-week study tour of Israel said here today that they were impressed at the deep sense of religious education and culture encountered in Israel even at the remotest settlement aid desert outposts.
A spokesman for the delegation, which is touring Israel under the auspices of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Agency’s organization department, told a press conference today that extreme religious elements abroad who report widespread non-observance in Israel should be severely criticized.
Among those participating in the press conference were Sir Barnett Janner, member of Parliament and president of the Board of Deputies; Alderman Abraham Moss, senior vice-president; Solomon Teff, vice-president; Adolph Brotman, secretary; and Harry Landy, treasurer.
As representatives of a traditional community which feels strongly on matters of religious observance, the delegation members said, they found the allegations of religious non-observance in Israel untrue. Organizations represented in the delegation are Mizrachi Women, WIZO, the B’nai B’rith Women’s League, the Maccabi Association, the Anglo-Jewish Association, the Union of Jewish Women and the Joint Palestine Appeal.
