The life and death of Anne Frank, Dutch Jewish ‘teenager murdered by the Nazis, has become the theme for a broad movement to demonstrate the German people’s desire to make amends for the crimes of the Nazis.
On the occasion of Brotherhood Week, which officially opens in Germany Saturday, major West German radio stations have been broadcasting a condensed version of a biography of Anne written by Ernst Schnabel. They have also informed the public that the author, the Association of German Broadcasting Stations and publisher S. Fischer have all agreed to pay fees, royalties and profits into an Anne Frank Scholarship Fund to provide grants for Israeli students to study in European schools.
In an appeal to the public for contributions to the fund, the radio stations stress that this would be a “people’s” contribution as distinct from Bonn Government reparations to the Israel Government.
