The likelihood that a fascist corps “braintrusting” the Poujade movement, now Frances fourth largest party will shortly capture control of the group was reported here in “France Observatore,” influential political weekly.
The director of the braintrust is Algerian Paul Chevaler, an Algerian and a fervent colonialist. Around him, according to “France Observatore,” are Serge Jeannette, a teacher removed from his post after the Liberation, and two editors of well-known newspapers that appeared during the Nazi occupation and who were subsequently sentenced to prison terms for their editorial activities in behalf of the Germans. Another Poujadist leader is Jean Le Pen 27-year-old law student and anti-Semite, who is expected to be floor leader of the 52. Poujadists elected to the National Assembly.
Since the elections, the Poujadist newspaper has continued to make Pierre Mendes France, Jewish ext Premier, a prime target, a tactic which paid off in the national elections earlier this month. The newspaper makes-constant references to the Jewish origins of Mendes-France’s family and that of his wife and suggests that they return to “their ancestral desert.”
