The administrative committee of Americans for Progressive Israel-Hashomer Hatzair, a Socialist Zionist organization aligned ideologically with Israel’s Mapam Party, has scored Israel’s attempts to build Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip as an “establishment of facts” that “hinders the cause of peace.” Declaring that “we greet those who struggle against it.” API-HH said in a statement:

“We are proud of the courage of the young men and women of the border kibbutzim who defended the frontiers, including those with Gaza and the Sinai, before the Six-Day War and are ready to defend them when peace comes–but stand uncompromisingly against violations of peace and justice.”

API-HH explained that “the dislocation of the Bedouins was insensitive not only to the rights of the Bedouins but also to the Israeli settlements which have painfully and slowly built understanding and friendship with them.” This is a “sensitive and painful issue.” the group said, centering on “justice and the brotherhood of peoples.” API-HH stressed that “we identify with Israel in her desire for secure borders.”
