Police expelled 30 Arabs from Holland last week as part of a large scale crackdown on illegally settled foreigners. Twenty-five Moroccans, 4 Egyptians and one Tunisian were arrested and expelled in what police announced was “only the first” of many actions. According to observers here, the crackdown serves a double purpose: to alleviate growing Dutch unemployment, and to weed out possible terrorists. There are nearly 22,000 Arabs living in Holland legally: 21,000 Moroccans, 100 Algerians, 200 Egyptians, and 400 Tunisians. An estimated 3-4000 Arabs live here illegally.
