The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York is assisting the Department of Justice’s Office of Special Investigations in its attempt to develop new information and evidence against alleged Nazi war criminals and collaborators believed to be living in the United States.
According to Richard Bermon, chairman of the JCRC Committee on the Holocaust and Nazi Prosecutions, the JCRC sent a detailed list of cities, villages and concentration camps in the Baltic states, Hungary, Poland, the Ukraine, Byelorussia, Rumania, Yugoslavia and Germany to its member agencies, to Jewish community leaders, to the Jewish media and to metropolitan area synagogues and centers with a request that it be circulated and posted.
Persons who were in any of the areas during World War II, or have information about others who were, have been asked to contact the Office of Special investigations, Criminal Division, Department of Justice, P.O.Box 28603, Washington, D.C., 20005 and submit a Survivor’s Questionnaire to Allan A. Ryan, Jr., director. Copies of the list and Survivor Questionnaires can be obtained from JCRC member agencies or directly from the JCRC by calling (212) 921 5505 or (212) 221-1535.
Respondents who were in designated areas at specific times will be contacted by a representative of the Office of Special Investigations and asked for more detailed information about incidents and atrocities they may have witnessed, Berman said.
