Barney Rapaport, a national leader of the United Jewish Appeal and a prominent member of the West Hartford Jewish community, died in Miami, Fla., last night while a dinner was in progress here honoring him on the occasion of his 75th birthday. He was unable to attend the dinner because of the illness which took his life. Proceeds from the affair, which was sponsored by the Connecticut Friends of Yeshiva University, went to creating a Barney Rapaport scholarship at the university.
Mr. Rapaport, who was a member of the UJA National Campaign Cabinet for many years, was also a member of the boards of directors of the United Israel Appeal and the Joint Distribution Committee. At the time of his death, he was honorary chairman of the UJA drive in Connecticut and honorary chairman of the Hartford Jewish Federation.
