Basle Zionist Congress Concludes Its Sessions; £632,000 Budget Adopted

The budget of the World Zionist Organization for the next two years as adopted by the Fifteenth Zionist Congress at its last session here Sunday calls for the raising of the amount of £632,000 ($3,180,000) each year.

The Congress closed its sessions late Sunday evening following addresses delivered by Dr. Weizmann, who left before the conclusion, and by Nahum Sokolow.

The closing session took place in the Casino Hall where the first Zionist Congress was held 30 years ago. The session was under the chairmanship of Miss Henrietta Szold, American Jewish women’s leader, the first woman to be elected to the Zionist Executive.

The Congress adopted a resolution protesting against the anti-Jewish persecutions in Russia and urging the Soviet government to release the Zionists held in prison. The resolution also expressed the hope that other Jewish organizations will join in this protest.

At a meeting of the General Council (Actions Committee) the Committee was reconstituted following the elections. Dr. Leo Motzkin was reelected president of the General Council. Dr. Stephen S. Wise, H. Farbstein, Kaplansky and Sprinzek were elected vice-presidents.

An Associated Press despatch from Basle stated. The Zionist Congress before its adjournment today received a message from Rabbi Stephen S. Wise of New York declaring that the incident which led to his withdrawal from the conference was “a thing or relatively small importance.”

He assured the Congress that he would remain a member of the Political Committee and continue faithful collaboration.
