Black police officers and the father of a boy whose death touched off days of rioting in Brooklyn, N.Y., are demanding an apology from the city’s mayor. The group said Rudolph Giuliani should apologize for suggesting police held back from making arrests during the violence that followed a car accident in which 7-year-old Gavin Cato was killed. The call comes after Giuliani told Jewish residents of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn that the city accepts responsibility for the riots.
