The contribution of the Jews to the development of Bolivia was lauded here by President Gualberto Villaroel during an audience he gave Dr. Natalio Berman, a member of the Chilean Parliament, who is here on a mission for the World Jewish Congress.
The Bolivian President expressed sympathy with the Jewish demands for Palestine and promised to support them. He expressed disapproval of the campaign conducted by some anti-Semitic newspapers which charge Jewish refugees with obtaining Bolivian visas on the pretext that they will engage in agricultural work, although after arriving here they became merchants. It must be remembered, the President said, that the Jews in Europe, persecuted by the Nazis, had no other way of securing Bolivian visas except by promising to engage in farm work.
