Leading newspapers throughout Brazil have started an intensive campaign against racial hatred.
Diario da Noite publishes a lengthy article on the subject in which it takes severely to task persons responsible for importation of prejudice from foreign countries. The article states that Jews in the past have helped and are continuing to help in Brazil’s progress and adds that all races are welcome.
Another paper, Gazeta, has started a series of articles on immigration, in which proposals to limit it are attacked. Pointing to the scarcity of labor in Brazil, the paper declares that all those who want to work for the progress and welfare of the country should find a home here.
Federation, a Government organ in the state of Rio Grande de Sul, sharply attacks foes of the democratic system, who, it charges, are financed from abroad.
At the same time, the newspapers generally comment favorably, in connection with the disorders in Palestine, on the role the Jews have played in the Holy Land. They point out that the Jews have revived industry and commerce in a country which was half desert.
