Prime Minister Winston Churchill today assured the House of Commons that Britain would be careful in supplying jet planestto the Middle East not to alter “appreciably” the balance between Israel and the Arab States. The statement was cheered.
The Prime Minister, who said that the number of jets to be supplied the Middle East states was small, reviewed the situation between the Arab states and Israel and pointed out that the four-year-old war is in a state of precarious truce–not peace. Britain must therefore be “very careful” not to alter the balance of power, he said.
