The British Government will continue to cooperate with the United Nations and through regional pacts in an effort to relieve tensions in the Middle East, Queen Elizabeth II declared today in a speech from the Throne.
The occasion for the address, prepared for the Queen by the government, was the reopening of Parliament at the end of its summer recess. In the presence of the assembled members of Parliament and the diplomatic corps, in an atmosphere of traditional pomp, the Queen declared:
“My Government will continue to support the United Nations, NATO and other regional pacts of which they are members–Bagdad Pact. They will cooperate with the United Nations and the countries of the Middle East in any measure likely to relieve tension.”
