British Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie, who has returned here following a six-month pastoral tour of Australia and New Zealand, said that he was impressed by the “intensified tempo of Jewish communal life and by the positive changes which have taken place there in the last 15 years.”
The Jewish population of Australia has nearly doubled in the last 15 years, he said, adding that the Zionist movement in Australia and New Zealand has also grown considerably. His overall impressions of the Jewish communities of those two countries were optimistic, Dr. Brodie stated, adding that “they are destined to be important components of the Jewries of the British Commonwealth.”
