The British delegation at the United Nations is circulating a confidential draft of a resolution calling upon Egypt to end its blockade of the Suez Canal against Israel-bound ships, the London press reports today. The resolution will be submitted to the U.N. Security Council when Israel’s complaint against Egypt is considered there, the report says.
Meanwhile, it was learned here today that Sabtai Rosen, legal adviser of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, left Tel Aviv for the United States on a mission in connection with Israel’s complaint to the Security Council against Egypt’s blockade of the Suez Canal. He will stop off in London for discussions at the British Foreign Office.
Secretary General Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha of the Arab League said today, according to Cairo dispatches, that the principal issue in the dispute over the passage of shipping through the Suez Canal was the British attempt to ship oil through the canal to Israel. The Arab League explained that Egypt’s action against Israel-bound shipping is part of the Arab blockade of Israel “in defense against further expansion by Israel.”
