The British Government’s attitude toward the partition plan adopted by the U.N. will be presented “at a very early date,” Colonial secretary Arthur Creech-Jones today told Commons.
He added that at that time the government would inform Commons as to whether ## intends to cooperate with the U.N. in the implementation of the plan. A third action of the forthcoming statement will reveal whether Britain will use the Trans##rdan Frontier Force to maintain order in Palestine.
The British Government, Creech-Jones declared, is determined to take “all possible steps to preserve law and order” in Palestine until the Mandate is finally ##rrendered. He repeated an earlier official statement that the withdrawal of British troops would be completed on Aug. 1.Reporting briefly on recent events in Palestine, the Colonial Secretary said the current disturbances there were sporadic and unorganized. The Haganah, he stated, was out on the streets in force, taking all possible action to restore order and to prevent reprisals by Jews.
