The Israel legation was reported here today to have made representations to the British Broadcasting Corporation following the screening of a television play, “The Prisoner,” a central character of which was an Israeli officer who was depicted as a Hitler-type Britain-hater who made obscene gestures before a statute of Christ.
A second character, referred to in the dialogue but not shown on the screen is an Israeli Cabinet minister who is described as a Nazi collaborator. The play also suggests that Israelis delight in maltreating Arabs.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews, representative body of British Jewry, is reported to be considering a formal complaint to the B.B.C. is understood to have received numerous complaints following the screening of the play.
