Canadian Zionists pledged themselves to raise $1,000,000, to be placed at the disposal of the Jewish National Fund for the purchase of land in Palestine, at the annual convention of the Canadian Zionist Federation in session here.
This decision was taken following a plea by M. M. Ussischkin, head of the Jewish National Fund, who described present day conditions in Palestine. The amount of $30,000 was subscribed immediately among the delegates.
A. J. Freiman, president of the Canadian Zionist Federation, pledged $50,000; M. Gilber and D. Dunkelman of Toronto, $25,000 each; A. Levine and R. A. Darwin of Montreal $25,000 each; N. Schiffer of Winnipeg, J. Finberg of Montreal and S. Kronick of Toronto, $10,000 each.
Twenty thousand dollars was contributed at the banquet Sunday night toward the Winnipeg Keren Hayesod campaign.
Mark Workman was elected honorary president of the Federation at the concluding session. Lyon Cohen, A. Levine, Louis Fitch of Montreal, M. Gelber of Toronto and H. E. Wilder of Winnipeg were chosen vice-presidents. Joseph Fineberg was elected treasurer; Rabbi J. L. Zlotnick, executive director; and A. Levin, Montreal, Dominion Chairman of the Keren Hayesod.
