Rabbi Abraham B. Shoulson, of this city, has been appointed head of a new department of Hebrew and Middle East studies, at Gannon College here, a Catholic institution. The department was inaugurated, according to a college announcement, because “the state of Israel is now a fact and more and more emphasis must be given to Hebrew as a modern Language.
The announcement also pointed out that the “course of events has demonstrated the Middle East will play an important role in the future of the family of nations in and outside the United Nations councils.” Rabbi Shoulson, who was named a full professor, is a native of Jerusalem and has four brothers also serving as rabbis in various sections of the United States.
