Alarmed over the fact that the strict Austrian censorship readily permits widespread anti-Jewish propaganda not only in the undisguised Nazi press, but also in public meetings of all kinds. Austrian Jewish leaders today expressed the fear that this attitude may lead to serious consequences for Austrian Jewry.
The Austrian Zionist organ, Die Stimme, today carried a sharp article protesting to the government the latitude given the Austrian anti-Semites, while Robert Stricker, editor of the Jewish Paper Die Neue Welt, addressing a meeting of the Jewish People’s Party, warned the Jews of Austria that they must not feed themselves with illusions. He added that “dark days are approaching.”
The disguised Austrian Nazi press, consisting of Nazi papers suppressed by the government and appearing constantly under new names, is increasing its anti-Jewish propaganda. They allege that the Jews are responsible for the recent civil war, that Jews supplied the Social Democrats with arms, and that the Jews are now engaged in spreading anti-Austrian propaganda abroad.
