A statement from Prime Minister Winston Churchill condemning the brutal killing of thousands of Rumanian Jewish men, women and children by Rumanian troops in occupied territory, was received here today by the executive of the Vaad Leumi.
The Prime Minister’s statement came in reply to an appeal by the Vaad Leumi to him and to President Roosevelt asking for public condemnation of the Rumanian atrocities.
The text of Churchill’s message which was conveyed to the Vaad Leumi by Sir Harold MacMichael, High Commissioner for Palestine, stated; “I am deeply shocked by these horrible crimes and will use the first opportunity to publicly condemn them.”
