Clara Stern, sister of the late Israeli Premier Golda Meir, died here Monday night of a heart attack. She was 79 years old.
Mrs. Stern, who was born in Milwaukee, was the first director of the Greater Bridgeport Jewish Community Council, a post she held for 25 years, and was responsible for laying the groundwork for inter-group relations dialogues regionally. She established the Conference of Women’s Organizations and the Council of Presidents of Greater Bridgeport, both of which encompassed Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, civic and labor groups.
Mrs. Stern spoke nationally on behalf of the Israel Bond Organization and the United Jewish Appeal. She was also active for HIAS and YIVO and the Jewish Family Services Organization.
