The World Union for Progressive Judaism perfected its preliminary organization at a committee meeting the Liberal Synagogue. London, on July 16th, reports received by the headquarters of the Central Conference of American Rabbis state.
Claude G. Montefiore of London was elected president of the Union. The vice-presidents elected were: Rabbi Louis Wolsey, Philadelphia; Rabbi Israel Mattuck, London; Mrs. J. Walter Freiberg. Cincinnati; Ludwig Vogelstein. New York; Dr. C. Seligman, Frankfort-am-Main Miss Lilly Montague of London was chosen honorary secretary and Harry Lewis of London, treasurer.
The governing body includes Dr. Leo Baeck; Dr. J. Elbogen; Herr Woyda, Berlin; Dr. H. Vogelstein, Berlin: Frau Ollendorf, Breslau; Dr. Rudolf Geiger, Berlin; Rev. M. L. Perlzweig; Basil Henriques; Lionel Jacobs, London; Dr. Julian Morganstern. Cincinnati ; Dr. Leo M. Franklin. Detroit; Dr. Samuel Schulman, New York; Dr. Felix Levy, Chicago; A. Leo Weil. Pittsburg; Roger Straus. New York; Mrs. Alexander Kohut. New York; Dr. Abram Simon, Washington.
Plans were adopted to secure the cooperation of Liberal Jews in Sweden. France. Belgium, Holland, Poland and Palestine.
Abraham Goodman, forty-one, lawyer and former Assemblyman. died Tuesday night in New York City, following an operation for appendicitis.
Mr. Goodman was attorney for the New York Joint Board of the Furriers’ Union, and had a part in the settlement of the furriers’ strike last month. He also represented other labor organizations and last year was attorney for certain factions in the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union.
Funeral services will be held today.
Mr. Goodman was born on the lower east side and attended the public schools. He was graduated from the College of the City of New York and the New York Law School. He taught for a time in Public School No. 62 and had practiced law here seventeen years.
Active many years in the Democratic Party, Mr. Goodman was elected to the Assembly from the 8th Assembly District on the Democratic ticket in 1916. He was Vice President and a director of Larry Friedman, Inc., and was a member of the Grand Street Boys’ Association and Masonic order.
Rabbi Moses Baroway, Director of Religious and Educational work at the Young Men’s Hebrew Association, 92nd Street, New York died Tuesday morning. He was 32 years old.
