Despite protests of a delegation of three representatives of anti-Fascist organizations, sponsors of the Milwaukee State Teachers’ College band tour to Germany yesterday again refused to halt the trip.
The delegation conferred with Hugo Anhalt, band director, and Dr. C. M. Purin, University of Wisconsin extension division director, and presented protests against the tour by the Milwaukee Musicians’ Union, John Reed Club, Milwaukee Committee Against War and Fascism and Federated Trades Council.
The two men insisted the tour is not being subsidized by the Nazi government, and pointed out that the fifty-two band members are to give concerts in Germany in exchange for reduction in tour rates.
All Jewish student members of the band, with one exception, have refused to join the tour, it is reported.
