Communist proclamations issued by the Left labor groups on May 1 were confiscated by the authorities. May Day was observed throughout the country by the labor groups with a general strike. A small number of Arab workers participated.

Attempts made by the Left groups to arrange street demonstrations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv were frustrated by the police. Several of the demonstrants were arrested.
