Thirty-one murders were committed in Israel during 1971 and 25 of them have been solved to date, Police Minister Shlomo Hillel told the Knesset last night. He said that 34 persons have been charged with murder or complicity in murder and five have been convicted so far. Relating further crime statistics, Hillel said there were 197 cases of rape last year of which 147 have been solved. He said that in most of the cases more than one man was involved and that 221 persons have been charged. Hillel did not go into details. Records show that many of the rape cases involved criminal gangs trying to press girls into prostitution.
