heavy taxation imposed upon it by the government. Though the Jews comprise only ten per cent of the entire population of Poland, the proportion of taxes paid by them covers forty per cent of the entire income which the government derives from taxation.
Despite the fact that the Jews are contributing, in taxes, four times as much as they should, the Polish government as well as the local municipality is discriminating against Jewish institutions which are entitled to government and municipal subsidy. The Jewish institutions are, therefore, entirely dependent upon the local Jewish communities.
