Delegates to the International Convention of Jewish War Veterans now being held here, were honored here last night with a special prayer service at Jerusalem’s Yeshurun Synagogue, dedicated to world peace.
The service honoring the convention delegates, was attended by President Izhak Ben-Zvi, Acting Premier Moshe Shapira, Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Nissim, Knesset Speaker Kadish Luz and other senior Government and military personnel. The prayers, which were inscribed in a parchment scroll, were recited by Israel Army Chief Chaplain, Rabbi Shlomo Goren. Rabbi J. L. Rabinowitz, former chaplain of the British Eighth Army, memorialized the Jewish service personnel who fell “from the Dardanelles to Narvik” in both world wars.
Earlier, the convention’s steering committee was received by President Ben-Zvi, who had himself served in the First World War. Capt, Joshua Goldberg, former U.S. Navy chaplain, presented Mr. Ben-Zvi with the standard flown by the late Israel President Chaim Weizmann during his visit to the United States.
