For being found in the building housing the German consulate here, Dr. Martin Zeisler, a physician, was beaten up by a detective who praised Hitler while plying his “billy,” taken to the police station and subjected to what is known in police circles as “the works,” held incommunicado for several hours without being booked, and finally released on bail, it was revealed today when the Civil Liberties Union and anti-Fascist groups of this city made public plans to provide legal defense of Dr. Zeisler.
According to his statement, the physician, who resides at 3254 Lawrence avenue, was selected at an anti-Nazi demonstration as member of a committee which was to visit the German consul, Dr. Otto Jaeger, and place before him a resolution protesting the treatment of minority groups by the
