The oft-repeated predictions that Dr. Alexander Vayda Voevod, minister of interior in the recently resigned Maniu cabinet, would be dropped when the new government was formed because of his relations with the anti-Semitic leaders, are borne out by the complexion of the new cabinet in which Dr. Vayda Voevod has no place. The former minister of the interior had kept in his employ a notorious anti-Semitic leader and had maintained close connections with the leaders of the Iron Guard.
Vayda Voevod’s relations with the anti-Semites and his failure to curb the anti-Semitic agitation and anti-Jewish disturbances aroused King Carol. Even before Premier Maniu resigned there were indications that Vayda Voevod’s tenure of office would be short.
The new cabinet which has been formed consists of the following men, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency is reliably informed; Gregory Mironescu, premier and minister for foreign affairs; Jon Mihailache, minister of the interior; Gregory Junian, minister of justice; Mihail Popovici, minister of finance; General Condreescu, minister of war; Virgil Madgearu, minister of agriculture; M. Costasescu, minister of education; Ion Logujano, minister of industry; M. Manuolescu, minister of communications; Voicu Nitescu, minister of labor; Pan Halippa, minister for Bessarabia.
Seven of the new cabinet ministers were members of the Maniu government while one was a minister without portfolio and one was an under-secretary of state. There are two newcomers. General Condreescu and M. Manuolescu.
