The new earthquake shock, reported yesterday to have been felt slightly in Jerusalem. Jericho and Bethlehem, was also felt in the cities of Jaffa and Hebron. where it caused a panic among the population, the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns.
The shocks, which have, since July 11th, been following in rapid succession, have created considerable uneasiness among the people. The newspapers are trying to calm the population asserting that yesterday’s shock was a natural vibration following in the wake of the first shock.
Arab newspapers are giving expression to their satisfaction at the various actions for relief which have been undertaken by the Zionists in Europe and in the United States. “While our own appeals to organizations and individuals have remained unanswered. the Jews are coming to our rescue,” one paper says, pointing to the gift of $25,000 which has been cabled by the New York Jewish philanthropist, Nathan Straus.
An official inspection by the municipality of Jerusalem shows that 175 houses have been seriously affected by the shock of July 11th.
