Checri Kanaan, a leader of the Maronite Lebanese Catholics and editor of the Lebanese Gazette, published here, declared that what had happened in the Middle. East “should have happened a long time ago, because it is time,” he said. “that Arabs and Jews lived in peace together as neighbors and as brethren.”
Mr. Kanaan ridiculed reports of Lebanese threats to Israel, which, he said were “political nonsense” motivated by the desire of Lebanese leaders to join the anti-Israel clamor “for the sake of being Arab good fellows.”
