President Eisenhower today lauded the Jewish War Veterans of America for “displaying in their peacetime activities the same dedication to high purpose that marked their service in time of war. “
The President expressed his praise in a message to the 58th annual convention here of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. Jesse Moss of New York, national commander of the organization, in his opening address last night, told the delegates that “Communism’s drive for world domination has evoked fears, hatreds and suspicions whose efforts are impairing human rights and civil liberties in every corner of the globe.”
Mr. Moss assailed “the bigots and racists who are the Communists’ brothers under the skin,” and said that the House Un-American Activities Committee “has a duty to focus public scrutiny on totalitarians of the right, as well as the left. ” He deplored “a disturbing tendency to regard the bigot as little more than a noisy nuisance because, unlike his Communist counterpart, the right wing extremist is not part of an organized international movement.”
