Emigration was again advanced in the Sejm today as the only solution of the Polish Jewish problem, this time in an address by Deputy Dlugosz, rapporteur of the budget commission, who declared that countries other than Palestine must also admit Jewish immigrates.
Replying to Wednesday’s speech by Premier Felicjan Slawoj-Skladkowski, Deputy Emil Sommerstein declared the Jews were merely pursuing a policy of safeguarding their rights within the limits of the Constitution. The Jewish deputy discussed the tragic plight of 5,000 Polish-Jewish refugees from Germany, who are detained at the frontier station of Zbonszyn. Asserting there was no foundation to the charge voiced by the Premier that the Jews wished to sabotage emigration, Dr. Sommerstein declared they merely opposed artificial and politically stimulated emigration. The Premier replied, declaring only half of the refugees were still at Zbonszyn and that these would soon be allowed to leave. He called upon the Jewish deputies to collaborate with the Government instead of “continually complaining.”
