Jews in Morocco were seen today to have been guaranteed equal treatment with all other Moroccan citizens in the new Fundamental Law proclaimed here by King Hassan II. The Fundamental Law is the first legislative act by the King, who succeeded to the reign three months ago after the sudden death of his father, Mohamned V.
Under the new law, it is specifically proclaimed that “all Moroccans are equal;” and have the “same rights and duties” as all other citizens of the Kingdom. That clause is believed alluding to the Jewish population of Morocco. The first article in the new law, however, proclaims Morocco “an Arab and Moslem kingdom.”
